Live Percussion

DayBreaker_VIPS_-11.JPG

Live percussion brings something physical into the room — rhythm you can feel in the air, not just hear through the speakers. Whether I’m playing alongside a DJ, supporting a band, adding color to a cocktail hour, or recording in the studio, my role is to add movement, texture, and human energy without overpowering the music.

My percussion style is rooted in African and Afro-Latin rhythm traditions, with a focus on groove, conversation, and feel. I work with congas, bells, timbales, djembe, bongos, shakers, and other hand percussion to complement pop, Afro-folkloric, Latin soul, and world-influenced sounds.

The goal is not to simply play over the track. It’s to listen closely, find the pocket, and become part of the music — adding lift when the room needs energy, subtle texture when the moment needs warmth, and rhythmic excitement when the dance floor is ready to open up.

My approach includes:

- Rhythm that supports the music

Percussion should enhance the groove, not compete with it. I listen first, then add what the moment calls for.

- DJ and live performance experience

I’m comfortable playing with DJs, bands, vocalists, instrumentalists, and electronic artists in both structured and improvised settings.

- African, Latin and global rhythmic influence

Congas, djembe, bongos, timbales, bells, shakers, and hand percussion used with taste, feel, and musical context.

- Energy, texture, and connection

Live percussion can make a room feel more present — adding movement, visual energy, and a human layer to the sound.

The goal is simple: rhythm that feels alive, connected, and in service of the music.

DJ/MC

A good DJ set is more than a string of songs. It’s pacing, timing, taste, memory, humor, restraint, and knowing when to give people exactly what they want — or gently lead them somewhere they didn’t expect to go.

I DJ private events, weddings, community gatherings, lounges, parties, and special events with a focus on curation and feeling. Some rooms need elegance and warmth. Some need nostalgia. Some need release. Some need a slow build into chaos. My job is to pay attention and help the room become what it wants to be.

My approach includes:

- Room-reading and flow

I build the energy in real time, responding to the people, the space, and the moment.

- Wide musical range

Hip-hop, R&B, soul, salsa, funk, house, Afro-Latin rhythms, pop, disco, jazz, global grooves, deep cuts, remixes, and classic party records.

- Personal event planning

For weddings and private events, I take time to understand your must-plays, do-not-plays, cultural touchstones, family dynamics, timeline, and the moments that need to feel personal.

- Clear, warm MCing

Announcements, introductions, timeline cues, and transitions handled with professionalism — without making the event feel stiff or making myself the center of attention.

The goal is simple: a room that feels present, connected, and alive.

Production

Some ideas need more than a beat. They need shape, movement, texture, and a point of view.

My production work lives at the intersection of rhythm, melody, culture, and contemporary sound. I create remixes, arrangements, edits, rhythm concepts, and original productions that draw from hip-hop, house, R&B, funk, Afro-Latin rhythm, soul, jazz, electronic music, and folkloric traditions.

Whether I’m reimagining an existing song, adding percussion, arranging musical parts, building a groove, or helping shape the direction of a creative project, my goal is to bring out the feeling inside the idea. I’m especially drawn to music that moves — physically, emotionally, or both.

My approach includes:

- Remixes and arrangements

Reimagining songs with new rhythm, groove, structure, and atmosphere while keeping the emotional core intact.

- Percussion and rhythm direction

Adding live or programmed percussion, groove ideas, and rhythmic textures that help the music breathe.

- Sonic collaboration

Working with artists, DJs, performers, and creative teams to develop ideas into something more focused, expressive, and complete.

- Original production

Building tracks, loops, beats, and arrangements with a focus on feel, movement, and musical identity.

The goal is simple: to help ideas become music with character, movement, and purpose.
